I was born in Groningen and grew up in various places in the Netherlands, including Hardegarijp, Friesland, and Zwolle, Overijssel. This helped me understand the challenges of adapting to new environments. I know firsthand how it feels to navigate unfamiliar situations, especially when you don’t always feel like you completely fit in. I was raised in a culturally diverse environment, with my grandfather being Indonesian, which made me feel slightly different from my Dutch peers. For example, my family always made sure there was enough food for anyone who came over—a value of hospitality that I still appreciate today.
Outside of work, I have a deep love for music. During my time as a student I was a volunteer at Simplon and Vera. Being part of the music scene has shown me how individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to share a common passion. I love being a part of creative spaces where people are safe to express their authentic selves.
During my studies, I wrote my thesis at the Academische Werkplaats Autisme, focusing on the impact of authenticity on well-being in the autistic community. I’m inspired by working with neurodivergent individuals because they challenge conventional ways of thinking and viewing the world. This resonates with me personally, as I’ve always navigated the balance between fitting in and embracing my individuality. I want to support others in expressing their authentic selves, regardless of how they differ from the norm.
In my therapy practice, I take a positive and open approach to supporting clients in their personal growth. I use a variety of methods, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychoeducation, and supportive conversations. I believe in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where everything can be discussed—no topic is too weird or shameful. My goal is to help clients feel comfortable being themselves and exploring their thoughts and feelings freely.
